Sarasota School of Glass
School Policies

Liability Waiver

All students and customers are required to sign a Sarasota School of Glass liability waiver before taking any class or open studio for independent work or using SSG tools, equipment or materials.

Studio Safety

Sarasota School of Glass will provide eye protection, but safety is the responsibility of students and customers.

Safety glasses must be worn in the classroom when using the grinder or any other equipment on SSG's premises, but ultimately is the decision and responsibility of the students.

We recommend students wear long pants, shoes with socks and natural fiber clothes but ultimately is the decision and responsibility of the students.

All students under 17 years old that participate in any class or activity at SSG, must have the liability waver signed by a legal guardian or parent.

Class Registrations, Deposits, and Cancellations

You may register for classes by calling SSG at 941 925 GLAS (4527)

Payment is required for classes when registering.

SSG staff has noticed that some students have not informed us when they have to cancel a class. By not cancelling you deprive another student of filling your spot. Many classes have wait lists with names of students that are anxious to attend and by not calling you deprive someone else of an enjoyable afternoon or evening. Because we at SSG have spent time purchasing and preparing a space for you we have had to institute the following policy:

If you cancel the class before 24 hours refund will be issued or you can reschedule.

No refunds will be issued if you cancel the class within 24 hours.

If you cannot attend, you can substitute another person.

Students who register for the Triple Play special, three qualifying classes at one time, are eligible for a 15% discount on class tuition at the time they register. Qualifying classes include all SSG classes under the catagorie 'Project' and 'Techniques'. Other discounts do not apply. The 3 discount classes must be paid for in advance and cancellations must be made with 24 hours.

Discounts are never provided “retroactively” after registration.

Auditing & Observing

In the past SSG has  allowed observing, but in consideration of students who have paid to participate in a class, we do not allow "auditing" or "just watching".

This policy does not apply to students who have special needs (for example a hearing impaired student who requires a sign language translator). Please inform SSG staff of any such requirements in advance of the first class

Deadlines for Student Projects

Because of the limitation of space in our studios, students projects will be held ONE MONTH and then either put back in the 're-fusable' pile, sold or given to charity. If a student informs SSG that they will not be able to pick up their work withing the allotted time, SSG will hold their work for them. There will be not acceptions.

Open Studio

Students may work during open studio from noon to 5pm,  Tuesday thru Saturday (Evenings by request). Students must call to register because of limited space. A total of 8 students can work independently. All students must have basic cutting and fusing skills. There will be no teaching during these sessions although a staff member will be in the studio to help.

Open Studio fee is $10 per hour, plus glass and firing time.

'The Warm Zone' - Open Studio Monthly Club: Students that use the studio frequently may join the Open Studio Club for $60 per month. This entitles you to 20 hours (a $200 value) from Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5pm; a locker to store your work.
(Evenings by request).
